About AFCAT Exam

The Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is an entrance examination conducted by the Indian Air Force (IAF) for the selection of Class-1 Gazetted Officers in Flying and Ground Duties (technical as well as non-technical). The AFCAT exam is held twice a year in the months of February and August/September. Its applications are accessible twice a year, in June and December. Through AFCAT, candidates can apply for all three branches of the IAF: the Flying Branch, the Technical Branch, and the Ground Duty Branch. However, eligibility requirements differ depending on the branch. The Indian Air Force conducts the AFCAT exam in order to recruit candidates for: 

• Flying Branch
• Ground Duty Technical Branch
• Ground Duty Non-Technical Branch

AFCAT Eligibility Criteria

Nationality:

According to the Indian Citizenship Act of 1955, the candidate must be an Indian citizen.

Age: 

For Flying Branch: Candidates must be between the ages of 20 and 24 as of July 1st, 2023, i.e. born between July 2nd, 1999 and July 1st, 2003.

For Ground Duty: 20-26 years old as of January 1st, 2023 They must have been born between January 2nd, 1997 and January 1st, 2003.

Marital Status:

• Candidates must be unmarried.
• Widows/widowers and divorcees under 25 are not able to take the exam.
• Married candidates over the age of 25 may apply, but they will not be supplied with married housing or permitted to live with family throughout their training time.

Educational Qualification:

At least 50% marks in each Maths and Physics in 12th. Completed B.E/ B.Tech from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks. A minimum of 60% or equivalent in Sections A and B of the Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India examination from a recognised university.

AFCAT Selection Process

The Indian Air Force administers the online test. For non-technical students, the AFCAT Written Exam is the only requirement for passing the first stage; for technical candidates, the AFCAT EKT (Engineering Knowledge Test) is required. The AFCAT Exam selection procedure consists of the following stages:

1. Online Exam
2. Air Force Selection Board Interview
3. Clinical Examination
4. Merit List

When it comes to appearing for an online entrance exam, it’s better to be aware of the exam pattern. The table below illustrates the exact exam pattern of the AFCAT exam.

IMPORTANT POINTS:

• The total exam duration is 2 hours.
• There are in total 100 questions.
• For every correct answer, +3 marks will be added
• The wrong answer will fetch -1 marks
• No marks will be given for unanswered questions.

General Awareness

This section assesses the applicants’ general knowledge. The questions are based on ongoing, current happenings in numerous sectors all throughout the world. This section has about 20 questions. It include topics such as:

English 

This section assesses the student’s English competence. This section also includes linguistic knowledge gained through understanding. This section’s total number of questions will be around 30. It include topics such as:

AFCAT EKT Syllabus

The AFCAT EKT is a 45-minute exam that is followed by the AFCAT. Candidates are given a half-hour timeframe to complete the AFCAT EKT Exam. The AFCAT exam has a total duration of 2 hours and is administered online.
