About IES Exam

Indian Engineering Service or Engineering Service Examination consists of engineers who can work under the government of India and are designated as Class – 1 Officers. They are in charge of a substantial portion of the public sector economy, which includes Indian Railways, Power, Telecommunications, Central Water Engineering, Engineers Defence Service, and Central Engineering Service, to name a few. 

The nature of the work performed by these bureaucrats is primarily determined by their engineering field and the service or cadre into which they are enrolled. The professional advancement is smooth, with great regard. The first post available is that of Asst. The Executive Engineer and the hierarchy finish with the Chairman/ Managing  Director rank.

IES Notification

The Union Public Service Commission publishes the IES test notification on its official website. The Union Public Service Commission conducts the UPSC ESE, a national-level recruitment examination, to fill thousands of jobs in the railroads, telecoms, border roads, Naval Armaments, CPWD, CWC, CPES, NHAI, IDSE, MES, and ordnance manufacturers, among other sectors. IES exam dates 2023 for both Prelims and Main are shown in the table below.

The ESE Prelims Exam consists of two papers, which are mentioned below.

  • In papers I and II, there are objective questions.
  • The UPSC ESE exam has a total score of 500.
  • Paper I is the same for all candidates, while Paper II contains questions from the fundamental engineering subject.
  • The ESE Prelims exam lasts 5 hours in total.
  • If you answer a question incorrectly, you will lose 1/3 marks.

ISE Main Exam Pattern

If a candidate passes the ESE Prelims test, they will be invited to take the Mains exam.

  • The IES Mains exam will likewise feature two papers. Both papers, however, will be traditional in character.
  • Furthermore, both examinations will include themes depending on the core engineering subject that you selected when filling out the application form, namely Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electronics Telecommunication Engineering.
  • If your handwriting is unreadable, the commission has the authority to remove up to 5% of your total marks.

IES Syllabus

The IES syllabus includes a common GS and Engineering Aptitude syllabus as well as the specific engineering subject for which they applied. The syllabus for General Studies and Engineering Aptitude, which is the same for all streams, is as follows.
